The Phoenix Museum of History maintains a Library and Archives to collect, preserve, and make available to the public research materials that document the city’s history. Our documentary collections include books, manuscripts, papers, and photographs that cover local history from the late 19th century through the late 20th century.

The Library holdings are comprised of books and journals on both Phoenix and Arizona history. The Library is open to the public daily during normal
The archival collection includes reference books on Phoenix and Arizona history, journals, yearbooks, city directories, newspapers, manuscripts, maps, certificates, deeds, licenses, and blueprints of historic Phoenix buildings, as well as photographic prints and negatives of historic downtown Phoenix, the first volunteer and paid fire departments, Phoenix pioneers, and other people important in the development of Phoenix. Arizona Images is an ongoing collaboration between the Phoenix Public Library and the Phoenix Museum of History. Beginning in 2002, the Phoenix Public Library and the Phoenix Museum of History embarked on a project to preserve and make available their collections of Arizona historical images. These images span the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and include items from the James H. McClintock Collection.
