Scout Programs

The Education Department provides in-house and outreach programs for all ages.

The School Programs provide experiential learning in a museum or classroom setting through the use of interactive, grade appropriate discovery worksheets, games and discussion. All school tours and outreach presentations have been designed around the Arizona Department of Education’s Curriculum Standards for Social Studies.

Guided Tours
A guided tour includes a docent-led tour and a hands-on activity. This 2 hour program can accomodate 1st through 12th grades. In 2008, tours will feature the history of the Mexican American community in the Salt River Valley.

“The discovery questions helped keep students focused & engaged"

We also offer "Hide and Seek Phoenix," a 45 minute guided museum tour in which the students circle pictures of artifacts that they find in the museum and experience correlated hands-on activities. This tour is ideal for younger children including nonreaders.

If you cannot arrange for one of these on-site tours, we can offer a visit to your school.

Outreach Presentations
PMOH offers three topics for outreach presentations:

  • Arizona History
  • Phoenix History
  • The Mexican American History of Phoenix

Presentations are appropriate for students in 1st through 12th grades.

“This was more fun than T.V.!"

Class sizes are limited to 90 students. The cost for tours or outreach presentations is $2.00 per child and $3.00 per adult. Teachers are free. If the students want a souvenir of their trip to the museum, classes can purchase $1 memento bags, which contain an Arizona flag, Chinese finger puzzle, and a wooden top. Please indicate if you want to purchase memento bags when you book your tour or outreach presentation.

If these fees cause a financial burden for your class, please call regarding possible assistance.
